The Rotary Police Officer of the Year Awards are an opportunity for Rotary, on behalf of the community, to recognise the good work being done, day in and day out, by the majority of men and women in the New South Wales Police Service. Caringbah Rotary is on the management committee of the St George & Sutherland Shire Awards.
Nominations are for January to December and are placed during April, the following year. There are two awards:
-
The Community Police Officer of the Year Award where members of the public nominate the candidates. A winner from each category, as listed below, is announced, however, only one Community Award is presented to each region, for example one for the Sutherland Shire and one for the St George area.
-
The Peer Police Officer of the Year Award where their peers in the Police Service nominate candidates. A winner from each category, as listed below, is announced, however, a Peer Award is presented to each Local Area Command, for example one for each of Miranda, Sutherland, Hurstville and St George. The peer nominations give officers who do not generally deal directly with the community the opportunity to also be recognised
All reference to individual Police Officer's details is removed from the nominations so that they remain anonymous.
'Certificates of Excellence' are presented to police who have shown outstanding service in the following areas:
-
General Duties
-
Detectives
-
Highway Patrol
-
Crime Management
-
Probationay Constable
Police are presented with their Awards at a dinner held during May. This gala dinner is attended by Police, Rotarians and members of the public. Entertainment is provided by the Woolooware High School Band.
