Projects supported by Caringbah Rotary

Funds raised, primarily through the Caringbah Markets were donated to the following charities recently:

Rotarians Against Malaria

$3,000 (International)


Funds used for the supply of treated bed nets. Over the last 5 to 7 years the following results can be attributed to this program:


  1. Papua New Guinea 75% reduction in malaria and 25% reduction in deaths
  2. Solomon Island 300 people infected per 1,000 reduced to 4 people per 10,000
  3. Timor Leste 220 people infected per 1,000 reduced to 9 people per 10,000

Rainbows for Children of Australia

Donation $5,000 (Sutherland Shire )


Rainbows is an intervention and support program that addresses the areas of depression, loss and grief, family break-down, suicide prevention, deliberate self-harm and parenting skills.


Fijian School

Donation $2,000 International


Freight costs for shipment of a container to Fiji. Contents included furniture and clothes for Fijian school children


Woolooware Public School

Donation $1,500 Sutherland Shire


Assisting the School’s fundraising to install air conditioning units in all classrooms.

Sutherland Early Support Services

Donation $10,000 (Sutherland Shire)


SESS work with isolated new mothers to develop mothercraft skills, providing a role model, providing guidance, information and strategies if requested.


SESS also provide an extra set of hands for new mothers who have premature babies, who have had multiple births, or who have young children to care for.


A food pantry is operated by SESS to assist disadvantaged families struggling with financial difficulties.

Woolooware Golf Club  Charity Golf Day

Donation $100 (Sutherland Shire)


Support for Jacaranda Cottage. This is a refuge that accommodates young woman that are homeless or at risk.

Australian Rotary Health

Donation $2,500 (National)


Indigenous health scholarship for an indigenous health student. The recipient is studying physiotherapy at University of Sydney.

1st Caringbah Scouts

Donation $10,000 (Sutherland Shire)


19 members from 1st Caringbah Scouts financed and assisted in building pre-school building in Zambia.

Sensory gym for Indigenous foster children

Improve the quality of life of unpaid carers who reside in the Sutherland Shire by supporting them in their role in caring for a relative or friend who is frail or has a disability.

Cook Community Classic  Gala Dinner

Donation for dinner held to raise fund for Sutherland Shire Charitable and Sporting Groups.

Aussie Helpers Limited

Donation $10,000 (NSW farmers)


Charitable farm aid for famers. Funds used in counselling, stock food and hay. Also provided food in the form of a can drive.

Top Blokes Foundation

Sponsorship of two Junior Top Blokes Leadership Program to be conducted at Endeavour High School


The Top Blokes Foundation fosters young men’s social inclusion, emotional and social resilience and improves their mental health and wellbeing. Our programs constitute an affirmative platform for young males to employ positive decision making skills, become positive role models to their peers and adopt healthier lifestyle choices while developing personal qualities of integrity, character and respect for others.

Kookaburra Kids

Kookaburra Kids provides free weekend camps and fun school holiday activities for children in grades 3 to 12. These are carers for parents and siblings suffering from mental illness. Time away from stresses at home, a caring role or simply extra responsibilities around the house. At the camps the children make friends and share their stories helping them realise they are not alone.

Rotary Internationals uses funding for their programs and projects including PolioPlus, Disaster Recovery, District Simplified Grants, Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Grants, Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchange, Rotary Peace Fellowships and Rotary Grants for University Teachers

Australian Rotary Health

Donation $5,000 (National)


Funds are used for Mental Health Research, General Medical Research, Indigenous Health Scholarships and Rural Medical & Nursing Scholarships.


Our donation from last year has been used to assist with a scholarship of a PhD student researching brain tumours. The student will be conducting their research at Sydney University.

Shire Rotary Community Assistance Committee

Joint contribution with Sutherland Shire Rotary Clubs to assist with eye surgery for a patient suffering from Turner’s Syndrome

Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal

Donation $2,000 (National)


Providing funding for the Salvation Army support programs, including families in need and homelessness.

Relay For Life Cancer Council

Donation $2,000 (National)


Providing funds to the Cancer Council to assist with their support of research programs into the treatment and cure for different cancers.


Rotary Youth Programs

Donation $2,500 (Sutherland Shire)


  1. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) for young leaders in the age range of 19 to 25. They attend a one week intensive leadership program. This year we sent 2 participants.
  2. RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) for young people in the age range of 14 to 16. They attend a weekend program designed to improve life skills, communication, self-confidence and leadership. This year we sent two participants.
  3. MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) for school students to participate in mock United Nation style debates. Each School has 4 students in the team and they are nominated a country to represent. Their argument would be in line with the country they represent. This year we sent a team from Caringbah High School.
  4. Youth Exchange for high school student to live and study in another country for 12 months. This year we have a student living in France.
